ABOUT ME

So nice to have you here! I’m Thaísa Meraki, thanks for stopping by

I’m a Brazilian strategic content creator and event coordinator, as well as a curator of cultural and travel experiences in Japan. Since arriving in the country in 2016, I’ve worn many hats — from Japanese green tea sommelier and geisha interpreter to social media manager and travel consultant in Kyoto. I’ve also worked in cafés, bars, hotels, and served as a producer for major events like Curitiba’s and Maringá’s Virada Cultural, as well as the travel TV show Vai pra Onde and the film about Zico. I thrive on challenges and new experiences, always willing to step out of my comfort zone whenever life offers me a chance to grow and become better.

I began my journey in tourism in 2017 in Kyoto, working as a tour guide, interpreter, and marketing coordinator for Enchanted Time with Maiko, an event that offers exclusive dinners with geishas for international visitors. This was my first contact with the tourism industry, traditional Japanese culture, and experiential marketing. The following year, I began organizing my own geisha events at the hostel where I worked as a receptionist. In addition to coordinating experiences for Enchanted Time with Maiko, I was also handling guest reservations, providing customer service, and independently planning and hosting geisha events on-site. This hands-on experience deepened my understanding of hospitality and event production from multiple angles.

Three years later, I joined the prestigious Ippodo Tea Co., Ltd., a historic Japanese tea company, where I worked in both the International Business and Direct Sales departments. This experience broadened my understanding of customer service, event planning, and marketing strategy. I also gained hands-on experience with budget management and logistics, while applying creativity to develop new event and workshop concepts.

In 2022, I moved to Tokyo to become Head Editor of mybest Brazil, where I led the writing and editing of SEO-optimized content aimed at generating product sales through affiliate marketing programs such as Amazon Associates.

In 2024, I brought all of these experiences together at Kalu Travel, where I revamped the company’s website, launched a travel blog, created a social media content calendar, and developed sales materials and sales pitch strategy focused on driving conversions. I also build and manage relationships with influencers, vendors, and sponsors, and curate unique travel products and experiences across Japan—while working tirelessly to promote it all.

I was born and raised in the countryside of Paraná, in southern Brazil, in a mountainous region that nurtured my love for small towns, close contact with nature, and outdoor activities. Growing up in a rural area gave me a strong sense of belonging to a community — something I deeply value and that I’ve found reflected in many aspects of Japanese culture.

In recent years, I’ve had the opportunity to dive deeper into two sports I’m passionate about: surfing and snowboarding. My dream is to live a life aligned with the seasons — spending winters in the mountains, surrounded by snow, and summers by the sea, riding waves.

What I love most is listening to stories — of people, places, and things — in any language and from anywhere in the world, then choosing the perfect words to write or edit them into meaningful narratives. You’ll often find me exploring hidden cafés, bookstores, restaurants, parks, museums, narrow alleyways, remote islands, or watching the sunset from a mountaintop. At home, I enjoy cooking, sipping tea or wine while listening to the rain, reading books, watching films and series, and discovering new music.

I believe in equality, respect, humility, gratitude, dialogue, lifelong learning, dreaming big — and in willpower. Because without desire, we wouldn’t even cross the street.
